Description

Patients with anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK)-positive are told to take alectinib. Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients with locally advanced or metastatic disease have stopped responding to crizotinib or can’t take it.

Alecnib Dosage & Administration

Alectinib should be taken orally twice daily at 600 mg (four 150 mg capsules) (a total daily dose of 1200 mg). Patients with severe liver damage should take 450 mg by mouth twice daily (a total daily dose of 900 mg). Hard capsules of alectinib should be taken with food and swallowed whole. They should not be opened or broken up.

Duration of Treatment: Patients should take Alectinib until the disease worsens or the side effects become too much to handle.

Changes to the dose: To deal with side effects, treatment with Alectinib may need to be stopped temporarily, the dose may need to be lowered, or the treatment may need to be stopped altogether. The dose of Alectinib should be cut by 150 mg twice a day, depending on how well it works. If a patient can’t handle the 300 mg twice-daily dose of alectinib, they should stop taking it for good.
